Former Arsenal and Chelsea star left unrecognisable as he reveals treatment for baldness

Published:

Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender David Luiz has revealed that he has been receiving treatment for baldness. The Champions League winner is known for having long, curly hair and was often compared to Simpsons character Sideshow Bob during his time in England.

However, a photo recently went viral showing Luiz in action for Fortaleza in his native Brazil with a bald patch. The 38-year-old has cut his hair short and has now released a video with his barber explaining the treatment he has been receiving.

“Over the years, I’ve lost a little hair,” Luiz said in the video. “I have treated baldness for many years. I used to be a cap lover back in the beginning.

“Now, over the years I have much more difficulty to leave the hair as I liked, the one fullest of curls, the curly way I liked it. It was a lot more work too. It was easier for me to put on the cap and do the style this way.”

Luiz was then given a haircut, with the defender left delighted with the results as he jokingly asked his barber: “Where did you stick the baldness?”

Luiz joined Fortaleza in January after leaving Flamengo on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal with the club. “I am here, completely happy, body and soul,” Luiz said after joining Fortaleza, as per CNN Brasil.

“To perhaps live one of the best chapters of my life. I want to be a champion, as I was with other clubs. It is not easy. It requires sacrifice, dedication, work. But that is what we like to do.

“I am looking forward to being part of the game on the field too, and to being able to give this crowd a major title, whether Brazilian or South American. First you dream, then you make it happen.

“It’s something that was already written in stone. Whether it’s from friends or from the admiration I’ve built for Fortaleza. Because of the principles that were implemented at this club, because of the philosophy that is strictly followed.

“Above all, respect and discipline come first. In the future, we’ll reap the rewards. Fortaleza is admired throughout the country today. Because it’s a transparent team that exudes maturity in the way it deals with all situations, whether they’re favourable or not.

“It’s great. When we have players in quantity and quality, it’s good for Fortaleza. We’ll need all the players in the squad, due to logistics and the number of games we’re going to play. This lack of rest time means that the squads have more and more players.

“The more prepared you are, the better for the club.” However, the club have made a disappointing start to the new season and picked up just one win from their first five games in the Brazilian Serie A.
