Netflix has released first look images of The Thursday Murder Club which will launch on August 28. The film is an adaption of Richard Osman’s international bestselling novel of the same name and will feature a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Doctor Who star David Tennant.
Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie will play the roles of irrepressible retirees, ex-spy Elizabeth, ex-union activist Ron, former psychiatrist Ibrahim and retired nurse Joyce. The foursome spend their time solving cold case murders for fun.
However, when an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands. Ahead of the trailer, Netflix has released four images from the highly-anticipated blockbuster.
The film, directed by Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone filmmaker Chris Columbus will also star Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant and Ingrid Oliver.
It may not be the only adaptation fans can look forward to as, so far, the House of Games host has written three sequels to his 2020 novel. The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed and The Last Devil to Die. Richard has also written another book titled The Impossible Fortune which will release later this year.
Speaking on his involvement in the film earlier this year, author Richard said: “I’ve sat in so many meetings where people have said, ‘Of course, we will let you write the script.’ And I had to say, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m writing my next book.’ And also there are so many great scriptwriters out there, so it really depends on what sort of position you’re in.”
“With The Thursday Murder Club, there are certain changes they would make that you would be consulted on. Certainly if you made it in America rather than England, that would be a thing,” he said.
“The plot, as I understand it, for The Thursday Murder Club movie is based on the first book but it’s not entirely the same, because you have to change things is the truth,” he continued. And to have me looking over their shoulder telling them every five seconds that they couldn’t do this or they couldn’t do that I think would be hard.”
