Terrifying video footage captures a Manhattan building consumed by flames, with thick smoke pouring out of the structure. The New York City Fire Department announced their response to the fire at 201 West 107th Street in Manhattan at 8:49 am, initially declaring it a 3-alarm fire. Shortly after, the FDNY escalated it to a four-alarm fire.
Following updates on social media, the FDNY reported that the fire was brought under control by 10:30 am, with fire marshals investigating the cause. Acting Chief EMS Paul Miano confirmed that all three injuries sustained were minor.
When questioned about the fire’s origin, FDNY Chief of Operations Kevin Woods stated, “No cause at this time, we’ll provide updates.” Miano praised the department’s rapid response, highlighting the dedication of both firefighters and EMS personnel.
Woods disclosed that emergency services were on the scene within three minutes of the 8:20 am fire report. He detailed the rescue of occupants from the building, including one individual from the top floor and another from the third floor, both handed over to EMS. One firefighter sustained minor burn injuries.
During a news conference, a fire official described the building as a six-story, non-fireproof structure with four units per floor. The top floor and roof were heavily engulfed in flames, affecting three of the four apartments severely.
Council member Shaun Abreu, representing various Manhattan neighborhoods, confirmed his presence at the scene and offered assistance to those impacted. Authorities advised the public to steer clear of the area due to smoke and traffic disruptions caused by the fire.
Notifications from NYC Notify urged people to follow safety guidelines, emphasizing the impact of the three-alarm fire at West 107th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan. Residents were advised to avoid smoke exposure and close windows for safety.
