Sky Q, a well-established premium TV platform, continues to be highly popular after a decade since its launch. Offering access to premium channels, streaming services like Netflix, and the ability to record shows on an internal hard drive, it remains a top choice for households seeking quality entertainment. Additionally, the option to expand with Mini boxes for a multi-room experience adds to its appeal.

Despite its current popularity, Sky Q may soon face new competition from Freesat, a subscription-free service providing live TV without monthly fees. While Freesat devices utilizing a dish for content transmission are not new, improvements are on the horizon for users considering a switch to this platform.

Recent observations by the Cord Busters team reveal a scarcity of the existing 4K Freesat recorder in online markets, hinting at an upcoming development. Manhattan, renowned for its free-to-view devices, has announced the impending release of a next-generation Freesat box. Manhattan TV’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, confirmed the imminent launch of a 4th generation recorder, addressing concerns about the current shortage in the market. The new device, speculated to be named the Manhattan S4-R 2TB Freesat 4K TV Recorder, is expected to support simultaneous recording of up to four programs and boast a substantial 2TB hard drive, offering approximately 1,200 hours of storage capacity along with full 4K capabilities for enhanced picture quality.

While specific details are yet to be revealed, the device is likely to incorporate satellite dish connectivity for live TV and broadband access for various apps such as BBC iPlayer and Netflix. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting development, especially if you are interested in enjoying TV content without ongoing subscription fees.
