A close advisor to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has resigned from their position in less than a year.
Meredith Maines, the couple’s top communications officer, has exited the role after ten months, as per a report by US outlet People. In October, the Sussexes were reported by the Mirror to have parted ways with 10 aides since stepping back from their royal duties and relocating to California over five years ago.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s spokesperson confirmed the recent change, stating, “Meredith Maines and Method Communications have completed their work with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The couple appreciates their contributions and wishes them well.”
Maines also issued a statement, expressing, “After a year of fulfilling work with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Archewell, I will pursue a new opportunity in 2026. I deeply value and respect the couple, the team, and the positive impact they are making in the world.”
Working alongside Method Communications, the external agency supporting the couple’s communications, Maines primarily managed the duchess’ public relations. Meanwhile, Liam Maguire, the Sussexes’ communications director for the UK and Europe, who remains in his position, has mainly focused on Prince Harry’s communications.
Upon her appointment, Maines expressed her honor in collaborating with the couple and eagerness to narrate their journey “as entrepreneurs, builders, and philanthropists, overseeing all communications for the couple and their endeavors.”
Several other communication staff members have also departed in recent times. Emily Robinson, who took on the role of director of communications for Harry and Meghan in June, resigned three months later. A year ago, the Sussexes’ global press secretary, Ashley Hansen, left after two years to establish her consultancy. Earlier in the same year, UK-based staff member Charlie Gipson and California-based staff member Kyle Boulia also left their positions.
