A suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a man in Niagara Falls on July 16 has been apprehended in Montreal and is set to be extradited back to the city in Ontario.

Josta MacNeal was taken into custody by the Service de police de la Ville de Montreal on Thursday in connection with the homicide of 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon, as confirmed by the Niagara Regional Police Service. MacNeal is facing a charge of second-degree murder.

Initially reported as 30 years old, MacNeal was identified by authorities. Meanwhile, Maaroof Bangi, previously known as 23 years old, remains on the run.

As no firearm has been recovered, law enforcement in Niagara has warned that Bangi should be considered armed and dangerous.

A police press release advised, “If Bangi is spotted, do not engage and immediately contact 911.”

Authorities have urged Bangi to seek legal counsel and surrender himself.

In the initial announcement by Niagara police, it was detailed that two suspects entered an apartment building on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls just before 9 p.m. ET on July 16 and shot Snoddon.

Following the incident, Snoddon was rushed to the hospital via ambulance but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Targeted Nature of the Shooting

Authorities have indicated that the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence, although they are advising residents to remain cautious.

Previously, Niagara police released surveillance footage of the two suspects and sought public assistance in locating them.

Initially, it was reported that the suspects were driving a 2022-2026 Nissan Rogue SUV.

At one point, authorities mentioned that the fugitives were seen in a 2016 Toyota Camry with identifiable damage, last spotted on Highway 45 in Hastings, Ont.

Earlier, authorities recovered a Mazda CX5 believed to have transported the suspects. Detectives suspect that the individuals may try to alter their appearance to evade capture, including changing hairstyles, makeup, clothing, and facial hair.

Individuals with information can report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), as advised by the police.
