Homes looking to enjoy television content without monthly subscription fees now have more choices available. Freely, initially introduced in 2024, offers access to live channels through a broadband connection. Initially, this service was limited to specific new TV models, but in the past 18 months, more manufacturers like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have embraced Freely. Previously, viewers interested in accessing live and on-demand content through Freely had to purchase a new TV set.
Recently, Manhattan’s technology team unveiled a new Freely-powered set-top box named Aero 4K, enabling users to access over 60 live channels and on-demand content for free on existing TVs. The Aero 4K device comes with features such as voice search, content recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live programming. Additionally, users with subscriptions to services like Disney+ and Netflix can access these apps via the Aero 4K box.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity among consumers. Currys is the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, which quickly sold out upon its release. However, the device will be restocked soon, according to information from Currys.
Interested buyers can sign up on Currys’ website to receive alerts when the Aero 4K is back in stock. Furthermore, other retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, are expected to start selling the device in the near future.
Once replenished, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all of which eliminate the need for traditional aerial or satellite dishes by streaming content over the internet. Transitioning to streaming services offers benefits such as simplified installation processes without requiring professional assistance and receiving regular updates over the air.
The television landscape is evolving rapidly, with Freely now boasting over a million users. As more viewers shift from traditional viewing methods to streaming platforms, the user base is expected to continue growing.
