A couple is facing allegations of imprisoning and starving their three children in a shocking case of neglect that has come to light. Reports indicate that the children were so famished that they resorted to breaking locks on cabinets to find food. They also endured physical abuse and severe hunger, resulting in vomiting, as detailed by law enforcement authorities.

The mother, Amberly Britton, reportedly shifted blame onto her children for the abuse and displayed a lack of remorse when confronted about the neglect. She has been charged alongside the father, Mark Myers, who similarly denied responsibility and accused the children of lying to investigators about their treatment.

According to probable cause statements filed by the St. Charles County Police Department in Missouri, an investigation was initiated by the Children’s Division following a child arriving at school with a serious injury that required medical attention. Concerns about the child’s well-being and the home environment prompted law enforcement involvement.

Upon entering the residence, investigators noted hazardous and unsanitary living conditions, including extreme clutter, strong urine odors, absence of bedding, and a large amount of dirty dishes and debris. Kitchen cabinets and the refrigerator were reportedly locked to restrict the children’s access to food, with the parents justifying it as a control measure. The adults appeared uncooperative and possibly impaired, failing to complete drug testing amid suspicions of drug use within the home.

In harrowing testimonies, two of the children disclosed being routinely locked in their bedroom, enduring hunger, pain, and punishments for seeking food. They described being left to fend for themselves, prepare meals, and get ready for school due to the adults’ neglectful behavior. Physical abuse, including striking and dragging, was also reported by the children.

The youngsters revealed that their injuries were concealed, and they were threatened with further punishment if they disclosed the abuse or tried to seek help. The family home was described as unsanitary and uninhabitable, lacking essential amenities despite recent financial gains.

Britton and Myers are facing charges of drug trafficking and endangering the welfare of a child. They are currently held on $250,000 cash-only bonds each.
