Boston’s left-handed pitcher, Payton Tolle, delivered an impressive performance against the Blue Jays, allowing only two hits over eight innings. Caleb Durbin’s grand slam in the eighth inning off Toronto’s Chase Lee helped the Red Sox secure a 7-0 victory on Thursday afternoon. Despite this loss, the Blue Jays have won 11 of their last 17 games, bringing them closer to the American League’s third wild-card spot.

The series against the Red Sox was a positive start for the Blue Jays in their 10-game stretch facing tough opponents like the Yankees and the AL-leading Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox have now won seven consecutive games started by Tolle.

Max Scherzer reached a career milestone by pitching his 3,000th career inning, becoming the 139th pitcher in MLB history to achieve this feat. Despite this achievement, Scherzer, a veteran starter for the Blue Jays, expressed disappointment as the milestone came in a loss. Beset by various injuries early in the season, Scherzer persevered through the challenges to continue pitching for the team.

The Red Sox took an early lead in the game and secured additional runs in the ninth inning. In a critical moment, Scherzer managed to escape a bases-loaded situation in the fourth inning. Despite a recent losing streak, the Red Sox have maintained a strong record since the trade deadline, with 19 wins out of 27 games.

The upcoming series will see Toronto’s Shane Bieber facing off against New York Yankees’ Gerrit Cole on Friday.
