Samsung has revealed its latest series of innovative foldable smartphones, potentially posing a challenge for Apple. The tech giant from South Korea introduced three new devices, with the flagship being the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Unlike its predecessors, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a unique “passport-style” design, which appears different when closed but offers a more practical experience when unfolded. The device boasts a spacious 7.6-inch display that resembles a compact tablet, perfect for multimedia consumption and gaming on the move.
This launch is significant as Apple is anticipated to unveil its first foldable iPhone soon, with rumors suggesting a similar design approach. Samsung’s early release puts it ahead in the foldable phone race against its major competitor.
Aside from design, Samsung has made strides in other areas with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. It is the thinnest and lightest Fold model to date, weighing just 180g. The device features an enhanced hinge for improved durability and longevity.
The expansive display of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 incorporates Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating for better visibility outdoors. Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 4,800mAh battery, the device offers fast charging capabilities and efficient performance.
Furthermore, the smartphone includes a dual-camera system for photography enthusiasts and Gorilla Glass for added protection. Samsung has integrated its latest Galaxy AI tools for enhanced photo editing, productivity features, and advanced search functions.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is available for pre-order starting at £1,699, positioning it competitively against the rumored higher-priced foldable iPhone from Apple expected later this year.
In addition to the Fold 8, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, resembling the previous Fold 7 but upgraded with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and significant camera enhancements. The rear camera setup now boasts a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera for improved low-light photography and 8K video recording.
The Fold 8 Ultra incorporates a new Flex Titanium hinge and a refined display structure for increased strength and reduced crease visibility. With a larger 5,000mAh battery, the device promises extended usage and rapid charging capabilities, starting at £1,899.
Completing the lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, maintaining Samsung’s popular clamshell design but with a thinner and lighter profile. The device features an upgraded external cover display, a robust aluminium hinge, improved performance, and enhanced camera functionalities, priced at £1,149.
