Following a shooting incident on the premises of a US university, one individual has tragically passed away, while another is in critical condition.

The campus of Kentucky State University is currently under lockdown due to reports of an “active aggressor,” as confirmed by the Frankfort Police Department. Authorities stated that the campus will remain on lockdown until further notice, with additional information to be provided jointly by the department and the university.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has urged for prayers for all those impacted by the incident.

In an official communication to students, Kentucky State University assured that there is no longer a threat to the campus community.

According to officials, one person has succumbed to their injuries, while another is in stable but critical condition. The shooting occurred near the Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall, a residential building situated on the southern side of the campus.

Reports indicate that the unfortunate incident at Kentucky State University has resulted in one fatality and one individual sustaining injuries, as reported by WSMV.

Kentucky State University, located in Frankfort, Kentucky, boasts an enrollment of over 2,200 students and a staff of 450 faculty members and personnel.

Frankfort Assistant Chief of Police Scott Tracy disclosed to WDRB that two individuals were wounded in the shooting, which transpired at Young Hall within the campus premises.

Kentucky’s Governor, Andy Beshear, addressed the situation on Facebook, acknowledging a reported shooting at Kentucky State University. Beshear assured the public that law enforcement is present at the scene and a suspect has been apprehended. He also requested prayers for all those affected by the incident.

The Frankfort Police Department confirmed on Facebook that they responded to an incident on the campus related to an active aggressor situation. Collaborating with the KSU Campus Police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement authorities have detained a suspect and secured the campus, which remains on lockdown until further updates are provided.

Furthermore, the Frankfort Sheriff’s Office also affirmed on social media that they have taken the necessary steps to secure the campus and have the suspect in custody.
