Donald Trump faced criticism from a former ally after he shared a controversial post regarding the death of Rob Reiner. The renowned film director and his wife, Michele, were discovered deceased at their residence in Los Angeles. Authorities confirmed that their son, Nick Reiner, aged 32, has been apprehended and is currently in custody.
Following tributes from various celebrities honoring Reiner for his iconic films from the 1980s and 1990s, the US president took to social media to condemn the late director. Trump accused Reiner of suffering from “Trump derangement syndrome” and obsessively fixating on the Republican leader. Reiner, a prominent Democratic figure in the entertainment industry, actively supported liberal causes and organized fundraisers.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “A tragic incident occurred in Hollywood last night. Rob Reiner, a once talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away alongside his wife, Michele, allegedly due to a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). He was known to have deeply affected others with his relentless fixation on President Donald J. Trump.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, reacted to Trump’s remarks by emphasizing the family tragedy of Reiner’s death, stressing the importance of empathy towards those struggling with addiction and mental health issues. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Rep. Mike Lawler of New York also criticized Trump’s comments, highlighting the inappropriate nature of the discourse regarding Reiner’s untimely demise.
Former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama offered their condolences to the Reiner family, acknowledging Rob Reiner’s significant contributions to the entertainment industry. Biden expressed sympathy for the loss and praised the couple’s lasting impact, while Obama remembered the Reiners for their dedication to advocating for positive values and inspiring others.
