Gerwyn Price suffered a defeat in the second round of the World Darts Championship to Wesley Plaisier. Plaisier, who had never advanced past this stage before facing Price, delivered an outstanding performance at Alexandra Palace.

Plaisier was in top form, hitting nine out of 16 double attempts, while Price struggled, managing to secure only four legs throughout the match. The Dutch player dominated the game, not allowing Price, the 2021 World Champion, to win even a single set.

The unexpected outcome of Price’s loss has opened up a promising opportunity for 18-year-old Luke Littler, who was initially set to face Price in the quarter-finals. With Price’s departure, Littler now sees a clearer path ahead in the tournament.

In addition to Price, other seeded players such as Joe Cullen (No. 32), Chris Dobey (No. 8), and Ryan Joyce (No. 24) have also been eliminated in the second round. Price, seeded at No. 9, is the latest favorite to exit the competition at this stage.

Plaisier’s impressive performance included a remarkable 130 checkout, finishing on the bullseye, setting the tone for the match. Despite Price’s strong efforts in the final set, Plaisier maintained his composure, ultimately securing the victory.

As Littler awaits his next match against David Davies, a Welsh darts player and NHS area manager, he remains a strong contender in the tournament. Should Littler advance, he is poised to face Mensur Suljovic in the third round.

The PDC World Darts Championship began on December 11, with exclusive live coverage available through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle. Fans can follow the excitement of every match as the competition progresses.
