Japan issues megaquake advisory following a recent earthquake off the eastern coast, resulting in over 30 injuries and a residential fire. The Japan Meteorological Agency warns of a potential magnitude-8 or higher quake within the next week, with potential devastating impacts including a tsunami, casualties, property damage, and economic loss.

The government estimates that up to 199,000 people could be affected, with significant infrastructure damage and economic repercussions. The advisory covers a vast coastal area, urging residents to be prepared for evacuation in case of tremors, especially along the Japan Trench and Chishima Trench.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi emphasizes readiness and evacuation preparedness in the face of heightened seismic risks. While the probability of a major quake is low, authorities stress the importance of staying alert and following safety protocols. The advisory serves as a reminder of the 2011 disasters, prompting vigilance and caution among the population.

A tsunami warning was also issued after the earthquake hit the Aomori Prefecture, causing widespread shaking and panic among residents. The government and local authorities urge the public to stay informed, prepare evacuation plans, and take immediate action if necessary.
