American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn endured a tragic accident while competing in the downhill event at the Winter Olympics. Despite a ruptured ACL before the games, the 41-year-old represented Team USA with courage.

Having been a top contender for victory in the event, Vonn retired in 2019 but made a remarkable comeback after a partial knee replacement in 2024. Her Olympic aspirations were disrupted by a crash in late January, but she persevered and completed her required training runs.

During the women’s downhill skiing final, Vonn lay immobile on the slopes before being airlifted to the hospital, evoking a strong emotional response from the BBC broadcast team.

Commentator Chemmy Alcott expressed deep emotion, reflecting on Vonn’s ordeal and the challenges she faced on the course. The high risks involved in her performance were evident, with Alcott emphasizing the difficulty and intensity of the competition.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics are ongoing, offering fans over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. A subscription to discovery+ Entertainment will grant access to TNT Sports 2 for continuous Olympic coverage during the games.
