Nicki Minaj surprised attendees at a political convention hosted by Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, by expressing admiration for Donald Trump and JD Vance. The rapper, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, praised the US President and Vice-President as “role models” for young men during her appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference alongside Erika Kirk.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, led the organization until his passing. Erika Kirk now heads the conservative activist group following her husband’s death. Minaj, in an interview at the Arizona event conducted by Erika Kirk, discussed her newfound support for Trump, a departure from her previous stance, and her advocacy against violence targeting Christians in Nigeria.
Addressing the Republican audience, Minaj commended the current administration for their compassion and relatability, referring to the President and Vice-President as individuals with whom one can connect. However, she inadvertently referred to JD Vance as an “assassin,” causing an awkward moment that she seemed to regret.
Despite the slip-up, Erika Kirk gracefully responded to the incident, emphasizing her support for Minaj. The rapper, tired of feeling pressured, highlighted the importance of expressing diverse opinions in a society where critical thinking seems to be lacking.
Erika Kirk also endorsed JD Vance at the event, although Vance has not confirmed his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election. Kirk acknowledged Minaj’s courage in standing by her beliefs, despite facing criticism from the entertainment industry for her pro-Trump stance.
In a recent social media post, Minaj publicly declared her support for Trump’s policies, particularly regarding Christian persecution in Nigeria. Trump’s discussion of imposing sanctions on Nigeria via his Truth Social platform resonated with Minaj, prompting her to express gratitude for the freedom of worship in the United States.
While Minaj criticized Trump in 2018 for his immigration policies, she now finds herself aligning with certain aspects of his administration. The rapper’s evolving views have sparked both support and controversy within her fan base and the broader public.
