Tabby Stoecker was visibly moved after winning a gold medal at her debut Winter Olympics in the skeleton mixed team event with men’s individual champion Matt Weston. They outperformed their previous silver medals from the last two World Championships, setting a new track record of 1:59.36. Weston overcame a 0.30-second deficit from Stoecker’s run to secure victory by 0.17 seconds.

Weston continued his winning streak to become a double Olympic champion over the weekend, a feat previously achieved only by two-time women’s skeleton winner Lizzy Yarnold. Team GB celebrated a successful Sunday with Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale’s victory in the snowboard cross mixed team final, marking the first snow gold for Britain. This achievement of two gold medals in a single day was unprecedented for Team GB at past Winter Olympics.

For Stoecker, this win marked her first major world-level success since joining British Skeleton through the Discover Your Gold talent identification program seven years ago. Overwhelmed with emotion, Stoecker expressed her gratitude to Weston, emphasizing the team effort that led to their triumph.

Following the medal ceremony, Stoecker shared her joy about being on the podium and the team’s strong bond. Her teammate, Amelia Coltman, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the unique bond and pride within the team. Weston reflected on the significance of their team victory, aiming to inspire the next generation of athletes with their success.
