UK households using BT Broadband services are in for a pleasant surprise as BT Mobile is set to make a comeback in the UK market. The decision comes after BT ceased new customer sign-ups in 2023 in favor of promoting its EE network brand. However, a notable change in direction is now underway as BT announces that its existing broadband customers will soon have access to BT-branded SIM deals once again.
While specific details are still forthcoming, this move signifies BT’s commitment to revitalizing its well-established brand presence following a period where EE took center stage in the company’s consumer focus. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, is keen on reestablishing BT’s standing with UK households, aiming to prevent the brand from diminishing in public awareness.
During an event at Wembley, Kirkby emphasized the company’s recent network investments and expressed the need to further enhance its brands, products, and services. The reintroduction of BT into the market will position the company in direct competition with major telecom providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as popular budget-friendly networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.
Although pricing details are yet to be disclosed, BT plans to offer bundled packages that include broadband, landline, and mobile SIM services, consolidating them into a single monthly bill. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore views this strategic move as BT’s effort to stay relevant in a fiercely competitive telecom landscape, emphasizing the importance of not just coverage but also resilience, scale, and trust in today’s connectivity demands.
Moreover, BT announced its partnership as the official telecoms sponsor for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, to be held across Britain and Ireland. This collaboration underscores the significance of brand engagement in connecting with users, households, and businesses, according to Pescatore. The deal with UEFA Euro 2028 serves as a pivotal demonstration of BT’s capabilities in showcasing scale, relevance, and delivery, leveraging the unifying power of sports to foster emotional connections and shared experiences among communities.
