Dave Goodings, a Christmas enthusiast, shared his experience of receiving a critical letter from a neighbor regarding his elaborate 20ft holiday decorations. Last year, the 31-year-old mistakenly purchased a 20ft inflatable Santa, thinking it was only 4ft, but decided to display it anyway. The attention it garnered led him to add a 20ft inflatable snowman worth £179 to the festive setup.

Despite drawing crowds for photos, Dave was surprised to find an anonymous letter in his mailbox in Chessington, Greater London, criticizing the decorations as “tacky” and calling for their removal to maintain the street’s aesthetic. Undeterred, Dave, a DJ and soon-to-be father, explained that he and his wife saw this Christmas as an opportunity to go all out with their decorations, considering it a growing tradition in their neighborhood.

While initially taken aback by the complaint, Dave humorously remarked that the situation added to the festive spirit. He emphasized that the inflatables bring joy to passersby and that they have unintentionally become a neighborhood attraction. The letter, received on Monday (02/12), lacked identification but demanded the removal of the decorations, citing offense to the community’s integrity.

Reflecting on his previous success with a smaller inflatable, Dave highlighted the positive reception it received last year. Living near Chessington World of Adventures, he noted that their decorations have gained local attention, with people stopping to admire and photograph the festive display.

As the decorations continue to spark interest and smiles, Dave remains firm in his decision to keep up the holiday cheer, viewing the incident as a lighthearted addition to the season’s festivities.
