Ronnie O’Sullivan, a renowned figure in the world of snooker, recently made history by achieving the highest break ever witnessed in a professional snooker match, scoring an impressive 153 against his opponent, Ryan Day.

Competing at the World Open in Yushan, China, O’Sullivan showcased exceptional form throughout the tournament. He secured victories against Matthew Selt and Shaun Murphy, earning a spot in the quarter-final clash with Day.

During the match, known as “The Rocket,” O’Sullivan stunned the audience by setting a new record in the opening frame against Day with a break of 153, surpassing the previous record of 148 set by Jamie Burnett. The 50-year-old executed a flawless 16-red clearance after being granted a free ball, skillfully clearing the table to achieve this remarkable feat.

Despite coming close to a maximum score of 155, O’Sullivan deviated slightly off-target during one shot, opting for the pink ball instead of the black. Nonetheless, he continued his impressive run by potting the pink, followed by the remaining six colors to reach a break of 146, eventually attaining the record-breaking 153.

The tension was palpable as O’Sullivan maintained his composure under pressure, delighting spectators worldwide with his exceptional potting skills and strategic gameplay. Although Day lost the frame, he graciously acknowledged O’Sullivan’s achievement, applauding his rival for the historic break.

The snooker community was abuzz with excitement as O’Sullivan’s accomplishment surpassed Burnett’s previous record of 148, set back in 2004. Despite a challenging season, O’Sullivan’s stellar performance in the World Open quarter-finals positions him favorably to advance to the semi-finals, currently leading 4-0 against world No.36 Day.

O’Sullivan’s extraordinary feat not only solidifies his legacy in the world of snooker but also captivates fans with his unparalleled skill and determination on the green baize.
