Britain is preparing for an onslaught of snow and rain today, with weather experts issuing warnings nationwide. According to WXCharts forecasts, heavy rainfall is expected to sweep across the UK, potentially bringing snow to certain regions later in the day. Snowfall is predicted in northern parts of Scotland, southwest Scotland, Cumbria, and Stoke on Trent by 6pm.

Although the northeast of Scotland may remain dry initially, rain is projected to move eastward as the evening progresses, covering the area. As night falls, snow is anticipated to clear from England, shifting towards central Scotland. There is a slight indication of snow in Ipswich and parts of Suffolk, with less than 1cm per hour expected.

Northern Ireland might experience a reprieve from the rainfall, while the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind across the country from noon to 7pm. The warning highlights potential transport disruptions, including road, rail, air, and ferry services, as well as the possibility of power outages and service interruptions.

The Met Office acknowledges the difficulty in predicting snowfall accurately and diverges from WXCharts’ forecasts. Their outlook suggests persistent rainfall from the west in the afternoon alongside strengthening winds. The forecast also indicates heavy rain moving eastward overnight, followed by clear spells and showers, potentially heavy with hail and thunder in the southwest.
