In a post-race interview following the Japanese Grand Prix, Max Verstappen expressed his discontent with the new F1 regulations to the BBC, deviating from the usual protocol. Verstappen, a four-time world champion, finished in eighth place at Suzuka, accumulating only 12 points this season, trailing behind competitors like Pierre Gasly and Oliver Bearman.

Verstappen’s frustration led him to contemplate his future in the sport, despite being under contract with Red Bull until 2028. During the interview with BBC reporter Jennie Gow, Verstappen openly shared his thoughts, breaching the standard two-question limit set by F1 guidelines.

Chief F1 correspondent for the BBC, Andrew Benson, praised Verstappen for his candidness and willingness to exceed the usual limits of the interview. Verstappen has been vocal about his intentions to exit F1 if he no longer finds joy in the sport, citing the recent regulatory changes as a factor.

While expressing his discontent with his current performance and the sport’s direction, Verstappen clarified that his frustration was not directed at Red Bull. He emphasized the importance of enjoyment and passion over financial gain in his racing career.

Looking ahead to the 2026 Formula 1 season, with radical rule changes and McLaren’s Lando Norris emerging as a new world champion, fans can anticipate more excitement and unpredictability in the sport. Stay updated with our special edition for an in-depth guide to the evolving landscape of F1.
