Statistics Canada has reported that tens of thousands of drivers crossed the newly opened Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada within the initial days of its operation. The bridge, connecting Windsor and Detroit, finally opened for traffic on July 27 following some delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge during the first five days of its operation. In the same period, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada by crossing the bridge.
Additionally, StatCan revealed that other border crossings in the area, such as the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, recorded 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents during the same timeframe. Furthermore, the agency noted that 4,100 commercial trucks made their way to Canada over the Gordie Howe bridge in the last five days of July.
