A powerful tornado has struck the village of Pomas in southern France, causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and injuring numerous individuals. Thankfully, no one has been reported missing in the aftermath of the disaster. As of Tuesday morning, approximately 1,400 households in the Aude prefecture remained without electricity. The tornado was captured swirling above the village of Verzeille, located just a few kilometers east of Pomas, late Monday, as shown in a video sourced from social media and verified by Reuters. Many houses in its path suffered shattered windows.

In the town of Preixan, situated a few kilometers north of Pomas, the tornado was also documented moving through, as depicted in a social media video verified by Reuters.

Cleanup efforts are underway in Pomas, with residents assessing the damage and clearing debris from the affected areas. Images show a man inspecting the wreckage of a damaged house, debris scattered inside the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church after its roof collapsed, fallen trees in a cemetery, and individuals covering a damaged building’s roof with a tarp. Additionally, pedestrians are seen navigating past a fallen tree amidst damaged homes in Pomas.
