During his Texas tour, Ford traveled to Houston, Dallas, and Austin, focusing on engagements with business executives and firms. Notably, a planned meeting with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a close ally of former President Trump, did not materialize. The premier’s office defended the trip, emphasizing the longstanding trade relationship between Texas and Ontario, which benefits both regions economically. The visit reportedly facilitated discussions with more than 10 major employers, laying the groundwork for substantial new investments, job creation, and enhanced economic ties between Ontario and the U.S.
In contrast, opposition leaders criticized Ford’s trip, labeling it an extravagant and fruitless expenditure. NDP Leader Marit Stiles questioned the trip’s efficacy in attracting investments, deeming it excessively costly. Interim Liberal Leader John Fraser characterized the visit as a superficial display, expressing skepticism about its outcomes and advocating for diversification of trade partnerships beyond the U.S. Green Party of Ontario Leader Mike Schreiner emphasized the importance of transparent and prudent spending on official travels, urging accountability to taxpayers.
