The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has apprehended a minor in Montreal suspected of involvement in terrorism activities. According to an RCMP news bulletin, the individual, described as a “young man,” is believed to have been planning an assault on a local school. Allegedly, he utilized artificial intelligence in preparing for the attack and posted menacing messages on the platform Telegram, targeting various groups such as Muslims, Haitians, and the 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

Sgt. Érique Gasse, an RCMP spokesperson, mentioned that the FBI provided information a few weeks ago indicating the individual’s intentions to carry out an attack. The arrest took place at the minor’s residence on Friday morning as part of an inquiry conducted by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, which focuses on monitoring and disrupting criminal activities related to terrorism that pose a threat to Canada’s national security.

The ongoing investigation involves the minor meeting with investigators, while a search of his residence is underway to locate electronic devices or other items pertinent to the case. The police action aimed to thwart the suspected activities of the individual and secure a peace bond for monitoring and de-escalation measures.

Gasse indicated that the minor is scheduled to appear in youth court on Saturday morning, with the possibility of facing charges at a later time.
