Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian striker, previously with Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, will join Brighton on a season-long loan deal. There is an option for Brighton to make the transfer permanent for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, subject to specific conditions being met.
Union Saint-Gilloise has confirmed that David will be playing in the Premier League starting from the next season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. David’s move to Brighton comes after a successful stint at Union, where he scored 41 goals in 82 matches and contributed to the club’s first league title win in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union until June 2029 last year.
The 25-year-old Canadian striker, who also represented his country at the recent World Cup, scored a goal during the tournament despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. David has made 14 appearances for the senior national team, scoring a total of four goals.
Although born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 team before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch, a move approved by FIFA.
Brighton considers David a valuable addition to their squad, praising his goal-scoring ability, physical prowess, and experience at both international and European levels. The club’s sporting director, Mike Cave, expressed optimism about David’s potential impact at Brighton as he enters his peak playing years at the age of 25.
Having previously played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia, David’s move to Brighton marks the next chapter in his diverse professional career. Brighton, an established Premier League team with nine consecutive seasons in the top flight, finished in eighth place in the league last season.
