Canadian men’s soccer coach Jesse Marsch has urged for strong repercussions against Manchester City for violating Premier League financial regulations. Marsch, who previously managed Leeds United, expressed his belief in the club’s inconsistent operations while competing against them in England. City was found to have breached financial rules from 2009-10 to 2017-18, allegedly inflating revenue and understating costs by over 900 million pounds ($1.19 billion US). Despite denying any wrongdoing and filing an appeal, the club faces scrutiny.

Marsch highlighted the disparity between clubs, citing the 2022 transfer window where Leeds and City reported profits from player sales, but with contrasting financial standings. He questioned City’s acquisition of Erling Haaland for £52m, indicating suspicions of inconsistencies in their dealings. Reuters has reached out to Manchester City for a response to Marsch’s comments.

City’s appeal will be reviewed by an independent board, with possible penalties such as fines, points deductions, or sporting sanctions, including relegation or title revocation. The timing of any sanctions is uncertain pending the appeal outcome.
