The upcoming 2026 Cheltenham Festival is poised to attract horse racing enthusiasts from around the globe. Interestingly, a growing number of punters are opting to experience the festival in the Spanish town of Benidorm rather than in the UK.

Scheduled to kick off at Cheltenham Races on Tuesday afternoon, the festival promises four days filled with thrilling races, betting opportunities, and festive revelry. While traditional attendance is expected, a notable trend has emerged with some fans choosing to celebrate the festival in alternative locations.

According to reports from The Sun, hotel bookings in Benidorm have surged by a staggering 225% during the festival period. The Marina Resort Hotel has become a popular choice among visitors, offering amenities such as big screen TVs, pool parties, and live DJ performances to enhance the festival experience.

Many attendees embrace the spirit of the event by donning racing-themed costumes, and they benefit from more affordable drink prices in Spain. The cost of a pint is estimated to be around £1.70 in Benidorm, a significant difference from the £7.50 price tag at the Cheltenham venue, albeit reduced from the previous year.

Zoe Harris, the chief customer officer of On the Beach, expressed excitement about the influx of visitors to Benidorm for the festival. She anticipates a vibrant atmosphere at the Marina Resort Hotel during the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle race.

The decision to celebrate a Cheltenham-themed experience in Benidorm reflects a shift in preferences among festival-goers. Organizers have introduced several changes for the 2026 edition, including reduced prices for Guinness and other beverages, increased flexibility for carrying drinks around the venue, enhanced food and drink options, and improved facilities such as a new PA system.

The reintroduction of Ladies Day and a slight reduction in the overall capacity of the racecourse to approximately 66,000 spectators add to the excitement surrounding the upcoming festival. This evolution in festival traditions coincides with a surge in female attendance, reflecting the dynamic nature of the Cheltenham experience.

As the festival approaches, enthusiasts are encouraged to stay informed and engaged with the latest updates and offers through various platforms, including the dedicated Facebook page for Mirror Sport. Additionally, exclusive content and special promotions can be accessed through the Mirror Football WhatsApp community, ensuring that fans are well-prepared and connected for the 102nd Cheltenham Festival.
