A tragic incident unfolded as a married couple, Linda and Gary Lightfoot, were discovered deceased after leaving a Thanksgiving gathering with family and losing their way on the journey home in Lubbock, Texas. The couple, aged 81 and 82 respectively, had previously made the trip from Panhandle, Texas, but this time, they became disoriented.
Their bodies were found on a ranch in Quay County, New Mexico, five days after they went missing. Relatives mentioned that Linda and Gary, who left their phone at home, had taken a route through Amarillo while trying to return from Panhandle to Lubbock. The Quay County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the unfortunate outcome of the search.
The couple’s autopsy results, detailing the cause and manner of death, are anticipated to be finalized within approximately three months. The family recalled Linda and Gary as loving and devoted individuals, with Gary’s background as a military veteran and law enforcement officer, while Linda had worked in the oil and gas industry and banking.
Gary was praised not only for his law enforcement career but also for his woodworking skills, creating intricate wooden crafts. Linda was known for her generosity in giving cards and gifts throughout the year, and for keeping a warm fireplace regardless of the season. The couple was active in their church and known for their kindness towards others.
Survived by their son, Gregg, Linda’s sister, Barbara, and other family members, the Lightfoot family expressed gratitude for the search efforts and highlighted the importance of being prepared while traveling to avoid such tragedies in the future.
