A major accident occurred on the longest motorway in the country, leading to significant traffic delays for drivers earlier today.

The incident involved a car flipping over after crashing into a lorry on the northbound section of the M6 near Birmingham at junction 4a in Castle Bromwich. This resulted in the closure of three lanes between junctions 4A for the M42 and junction 5 for Castle Bromwich, Castle Vale, and Sutton Coldfield. The disruption lasted for nearly an hour. Emergency services, including an ambulance, responded to the scene, where the car driver received medical attention for non-serious injuries before being transported to Heartlands Hospital.

Authorities from the West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that a collision between two vehicles occurred at junction 4a of the M6, with one driver sustaining injuries deemed not severe.

Following the morning’s crash, all three lanes were reopened as traffic officers cleared the area. National Highways reported that the overturned vehicle on the northbound M6 near Birmingham has been removed, and all lanes are back in operation, although some residual delays of up to 30 minutes persisted.

Emergency services have left the scene, and recovery operations are in progress, with three out of four lanes still closed. Traffic monitoring systems indicated delays of up to 55 minutes with congestion spanning back to J3A.

Reports indicated that heavy traffic congestion was observed around junction 4A on a Google Traffic map. National Highways provided an update, stating that lanes 3 and 4 on the northbound M6 near Birmingham were closed due to a car overturning and resting against the central reservation. Recovery efforts were underway, with delays of up to 55 minutes reported.

Due to the overturned vehicle, lanes 3 and 4 were shut down on the M6 northbound near Birmingham between J4A (M42 link) and J5 (Castle Bromwich). Emergency services and Traffic Officers were on-site, overseeing the recovery process, leading to significant delays in the area.
