Prince George RCMP have verified that an individual has passed away following an emergency landing of an aircraft on Foothills Boulevard, approximately 1.5 kilometers to the north of North Nechako Road. The RCMP reported that two motor vehicles were part of the incident. They expressed their sorrow over the fatality and mentioned that the condition of the other vehicle occupants and those on the plane is currently unknown.
Authorities advised the public to steer clear of the area as Foothills Boulevard has been shut down in both directions, with the closure expected to extend through the night and into Friday. The Transportation Safety Board will be assuming control of the investigation, as per the police.
The emergency landing occurred on a busy road in northern Prince George, near Highland Drive, around 2:30 p.m. PT. B.C. Emergency Health Services responded to the scene, attending to a total of 10 patients, two of whom were transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Witness Mohit Arora described the plane hitting a pickup truck as he turned onto Foothills Boulevard. He recounted the harrowing experience of narrowly avoiding the aircraft’s propeller striking his own vehicle, expressing relief that he escaped unscathed. The RCMP emphasized the complexity of the situation involving two cars and stressed the unpredictability of such emergencies for drivers.
Prince George Fire Rescue confirmed their response to a “serious motor vehicle incident with a plane,” while the Transportation Safety Board identified the involved aircraft as a Beech King Air 200. Images captured at the scene depicted the damaged aircraft and vehicles, urging people to avoid the area due to the prolonged road closure.
