Winnipeg Jets’ standout goalie, Connor Hellebuyck, known for his Olympic gold medal and three Vezina trophies, has made a public request for a trade. Speculations about Hellebuyck’s future have been circulating among hockey enthusiasts and analysts for some time now. In a statement released by his agent on Thursday, Hellebuyck confirmed that he had privately asked the Jets for a trade several months ago.

Expressing his desire to handle the situation discreetly and respectfully, Hellebuyck decided to make his trade request public as the training camp draws near. He emphasized that he and his family believe moving on is the best course of action. Despite his decision, Hellebuyck expressed gratitude to the Winnipeg Jets fans for their support throughout his career and is hopeful for a swift resolution.

At 33 years old and hailing from Michigan, Hellebuyck achieved a remarkable milestone when he was recognized as both the league’s MVP and top goaltender in the 2024-25 NHL season, coinciding with the Jets’ historic best league record. Jets’ General Manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, stated that there were no new developments regarding Hellebuyck’s future with the team but acknowledged the goalie’s desire for a change.

Cheveldayoff praised Hellebuyck’s contributions to the organization over the years, emphasizing the team’s deep respect for his accomplishments. The Jets’ management assured that they would approach the situation thoughtfully and with due consideration. Hellebuyck reflected on the Jets drafting him in 2012 and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to prove himself. Notably, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from U.S. President Donald Trump for his outstanding performance in the Olympic gold-medal game against Canada earlier this year.

Hellebuyck, a five-time Vezina Trophy finalist, remains a prominent figure in the hockey world with his remarkable achievements and contributions to the sport.
