Robin Williams’s children have reactivated their late father’s dormant Instagram account in response to the proliferation of unauthorized AI replicas of him.

Following Williams’s passing on August 11, 2014, at 63 years old, an examination revealed that he had Lewy body dementia.

In a recent post, Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams conveyed their intention to maintain a safe and trustworthy space on the “therobinwilliams” Instagram account. They aim to ensure that the content shared reflects their father’s legacy authentically and with warmth.

The siblings expressed their desire to share their father’s exceptional talent and humor with the world. They want to reminisce about the moments that brought laughter to them and many others, celebrating his remarkable life and work that continues to inspire people globally.

Robin Williams had a distinguished career in film, television, and theater. He gained fame through the television series “Mork & Mindy” (1978-82) and starred in iconic films such as “Good Morning Vietnam” (1987), “Dead Poets Society” (1989), “Mrs. Doubtfire” (1993), and “Jumanji” (1995).

His accolades include an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in “Good Will Hunting” (1997) and a special achievement Golden Globe Award for voicing Genie in “Aladdin” (1992).

Recent AI-generated videos featuring Robin Williams have surfaced online, showing him engaging in various activities such as podcasts, stand-up comedy, motivational talks, and even commenting on dinosaurs in “Jurassic Park.” These videos were predominantly created using OpenAI’s video creation and social media app, Sora.

OpenAI discontinued Sora in March following backlash from family estates due to the generation of inappropriate content involving public figures like Michael Jackson, Mister Rogers, and Martin Luther King Jr.

Zelda Williams, an accomplished actor and director, has consistently condemned AI recreations of her father. She has actively discouraged fans from sending her AI-generated videos of Robin Williams, labeling them as “disgusting” and not reflective of his wishes.

In a recent Instagram story, Zelda emphasized the importance of combatting AI misuse by bringing back her father’s Instagram account. She aims to transform the space into a platform where genuine clips and photos of him can be found, countering the rampant abuse of his likeness and voice through AI technology.

While actor Matthew Lawrence expressed interest in reviving Robin Williams’s voice using AI, he emphasized the necessity of obtaining permission from the Williams family before pursuing such a project.

Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., has also voiced her disapproval of incorporating her father into AI projects.

Furthermore, an AI version of the late actor Val Kilmer, who passed away at 65 last year, will feature in the upcoming film “As Deep As the Grave.” Kilmer’s estate authorized the digital replication and is being compensated for its use.
