McDonald’s customers are expressing frustration following the announcement of adjustments to the company’s loyalty program. The popular fast-food chain will soon be raising the point requirements for redeeming free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards.
Currently, customers need 5,500 points to claim items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets. However, effective March 17, the required points will increase to 6,500. Points are earned at a rate of 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.
Moreover, the points needed for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will rise from 1,500 to 2,000 points. Additionally, the threshold for items like a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will increase from 2,500 points to 3,500, while a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich will now require 5,000 points, up from 4,000.
In response to the changes, one dissatisfied fan shared on social media, “Not at all happy,” while another inquired about the start date to plan their redemptions.
A McDonald’s spokesperson explained that the adjustments were made due to escalating food and supply costs. They highlighted the introduction of new redemption options, including Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and a Sausage Sandwich, to provide customers with more choices.
These changes coincide with the launch of McDonald’s new menu, featuring innovative items like the Surf N’ Turf burger and the Chicken Cheeseburger, along with the Espresso Milkshake and Chilli Cheese Bites.
This move reflects McDonald’s ongoing efforts to adapt to market conditions while expanding their menu offerings to cater to diverse customer preferences.
