A prison officer has admitted to engaging in a romantic relationship with an inmate and allegedly performing a sexual act on him, potentially resulting in jail time. Rebecca Pinckard, aged 46, was involved in a clandestine affair with a prisoner at HMP Highpoint in Stradishall, Suffolk, spanning from April to July 2024. She was apprehended and faced charges for misconduct that breached the public’s trust.

The accusation against her stipulates that she “misconducted herself” by initiating a relationship with a prisoner under her supervision, sending him a card, and engaging in oral sex with him while on duty as a prison officer. Pinckard pleaded guilty to these charges at Cambridge Crown Court on November 19 and awaits sentencing in January.

During a prior court session, Pinckard’s lawyer, Andrew Cookson, noted discrepancies in the case without specifying them. Her case is intertwined with that of a prisoner named Erion Nakdi, aged 42, who was charged with possessing a mobile phone at Highpoint prison between July 2 and July 6 the prior year.

Nakdi, appearing via video link from Category D HMP Ford prison near Arundel, West Sussex, admitted guilt to the charge. However, it was not confirmed in court if he was the inmate involved in the alleged relationship with Pinckard. The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) was alerted to the incident on July 8 of the same year, deeming the purported relationship as “inappropriate.”

Detective Inspector Puneet Netar from ERSOU’s regional organized crime unit emphasized that Pinckard abused her authority as a prison officer by engaging in a relationship with an inmate, jeopardizing public trust in the justice system. The unit collaborates with the Prison Service to investigate misconduct or corruption, holding accountable those who misuse their positions.

Pinckard joins a list of officers involved in illicit relationships with prisoners. Recently, Alicia Novas, aged 19, confessed to having a relationship with a violent robber in prison and smuggling cannabis for him. Another case involved Isabelle Dale, aged 23, found guilty of engaging in a brief sexual encounter with an inmate in a prison prayer room and having a fling with a second prisoner at HMP Coldingley in Surrey.
