Snow is expected to make a comeback in the UK within the next 24 hours, according to advanced weather predictions pinpointing the potential impact areas.

The latest GFS model forecasts indicate that snowfall may commence in Scotland and northern England around 6pm on Friday as a weather system moves in from the Atlantic. This system is also poised to bring heavy rain to Northern Ireland, Wales, and the rest of England.

By 9pm, the maps project intense snowfall in regions including the Lake District, the Pennines, southern Scotland, and parts of the Highlands. At the same time, the heaviest rainfall is anticipated along the east coast of England.

Subsequent maps around midnight suggest that snowfall will persist in Scotland, with Glasgow and areas south of Edinburgh likely to experience snowy conditions. Further south, there is a possibility of snow settling in places like the Peak District and towns along the east coast such as Redcar.

The Met Office has indicated that snow is more probable later in the month, as per its forecast for December 19 to January 2. The outlook suggests changeable weather with intermittent rain, potential hill snow in the north, and periods of high pressure leading to drier conditions compared to the earlier part of December.

Additionally, a yellow weather warning for fog is set to be in effect tomorrow, affecting East Sussex, Kent, Surrey, and West Sussex. The warning highlights the expectation of freezing fog developing across southeast England on Thursday night, with visibility potentially dropping below 100 meters in some areas, along with the possibility of icy patches on untreated surfaces post rainfall during the day.
