Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to chase more historical milestones this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible in a one-month span after registering for the World Seniors Snooker Championship.
At 50 years old, O’Sullivan, a fierce competitor on the tour, will face off against players now in the senior circuit. He looks forward to competing in his 34th consecutive World Championship this spring, eyeing a record eighth crown.
His debut appearance in the senior tournament, scheduled for May 6 and spanning five days, will keep him in Yorkshire. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has confirmed O’Sullivan’s participation, highlighting him as the sport’s most commercially successful and captivating figure, headlining the strongest field ever assembled for a World Seniors event.
Joining O’Sullivan will be fellow world champions Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty, among others like Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, and Tony Drago. The chairman of the event, Jason Francis, expressed excitement over O’Sullivan’s debut, expecting heightened ticket sales and overall demand due to his participation.
Rule adjustments by the World Snooker Tour post the 2025 World Championship now allow professional players aged 45 or older and ranked in the top 64 to compete in the veterans’ circuit. O’Sullivan, with seven world titles to his name, seeks to add another to his resume after his last victory in 2022.
Stephen Hendry, a former world champion, has shared his support for O’Sullivan’s pursuit of an eighth world title, citing his admiration for O’Sullivan’s achievements and reminiscing about his own notable records in the sport.
