Russia has issued a veiled warning to the UK, outlining conditions under which Vladimir Putin could engage in conflict with Europe.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commended Donald Trump for his efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine but criticized Britain and EU nations for opposing the peace solution proposed by the US and Russia.
Lavrov stated that Russia has no intention of going to war with Europe but will react to any hostile actions, such as the presence of European military forces in Ukraine and seizure of Russian assets.
This stance, as emphasized by Lavrov, could potentially lead to a response from the Kremlin, as indicated in a stark warning about the possibility of World War Three. The UK’s Ministry of Defence confirmed the death of a 28-year-old paratrooper in Ukraine during a tragic incident while observing the testing of a new defensive capability.
While the UK had previously acknowledged the presence of a limited number of military personnel in Ukraine for diplomatic security and to support the Ukrainian armed forces, the deployment of paratroopers had not been publicly disclosed.
Lavrov highlighted Russia’s preparedness to respond if NATO forces were stationed in Ukraine post-conflict, emphasizing the importance of ensuring Russia’s security along its western borders through diplomatic efforts.
The potential threat may extend to NATO member states sharing borders with Russia, including Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Norway.
Lavrov, who reappeared following recent health rumors, underscored the divide between the US and Europe, including the UK, while commending Trump’s commitment to dialogue and conflict resolution in Ukraine through political and diplomatic means.
He emphasized the necessity of addressing the root causes of the crisis in Ukraine and criticized London, the European Commission leadership in Brussels, and certain NATO and EU member states for their adversarial stance on the issue.
While Moscow prefers a political solution that aligns with Putin’s objectives, Lavrov indicated readiness to employ military measures if necessary, acknowledging the heroism of those defending Russia’s interests in special military operations.
