Swiss authorities announced the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a rave in Aarau over the weekend. The incident resulted in the tragic death of a 22-year-old Italian woman and left five others injured during the early hours of Sunday at a horse racing venue.

Following an extensive operation, law enforcement officers arrested a Swiss male suspect just before 1 a.m. on Monday in relation to the attack. The Canton of Aargau police disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances, background, and potential motive behind the incident, with initial indications suggesting the involvement of a single perpetrator.

Authorities mentioned that they are examining three potential motives for the shooting, including the possibilities of a mass shooting, a terrorist act, or an undisclosed criminal motive. The discovery of cartridges at the crime scene indicated the presence of two different bullet calibers, raising the possibility of a pistol and a larger weapon, potentially an assault rifle, being used.

While the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger highlighted similarities between the found cartridges and those related to the Russian AK-74 assault rifle, law enforcement officials refrained from providing official comments on the matter. The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, identified the deceased 22-year-old victim as Maria Spinelli.
