Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have reportedly reached an agreement to face off in a highly anticipated heavyweight battle, with key details now disclosed.
Earlier in December, news surfaced that the long-standing rivalry between the two fighters would be settled in the boxing ring in 2026. However, shortly after his victory against Jake Paul over the Christmas period, Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of his close friends Sina Ghami and Lateef ‘Latz’ Ayodele.
Despite concerns that Joshua might not return to boxing following the near-fatal accident, the former heavyweight champion is back in light training and considering a potential comeback to the ring this summer. Speculation suggests that Joshua might first face his former rival Dillian Whyte before pursuing a showdown with Fury.
According to boxing journalist Gareth A Davies, both Fury and Joshua have officially agreed to the fight. Davies disclosed on talkSPORT that the fight has been signed behind the scenes and confirmed the agreement, stating, “The Fury-Joshua fight is signed. Okay, it is signed in the background. I’ve got that on good authority.”
Davies further revealed that the anticipated match is expected to be broadcast live on Netflix and is likely to take place either later this year or in the following year, with Joshua potentially returning to action in June or July. He emphasized, “It’s with the big money people. It’ll be on Netflix. It’s on the cards and it’s going to happen.”
Netflix is set to showcase Fury’s return on April 11. The ‘Gypsy King’ surprised fans last year by announcing his retirement from boxing, only to reverse his decision months later. He is scheduled to face Russian knockout artist Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Netflix has become a prominent platform for boxing events, featuring matchups like Paul vs Joshua, Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano, and Paul vs Mike Tyson.
Joshua is nearing a full training return for a potential comeback to the ring later this year. Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, expressed optimism about the possibility of an all-British heavyweight clash between Fury and Joshua despite the challenges Joshua has faced. Hearn stated that Joshua is expected to return to the ring in late summer, with a potential matchup against Fury likely towards the end of the year or early 2027.
