The adult daughter of a well-known YouTuber has come forward to reveal the alleged severe abuse she endured in private.
Jordyn Downs, aged 29, is among the five biological children of ‘YouTube mom’ Machelle Hobson, who ran the YouTube channel Fantastic Adventures. In addition to her biological children, Machelle adopted seven kids and reportedly fostered over 40 children from 2005 to 2019.
Fantastic Adventures, launched on YouTube in 2012, garnered popularity, but Jordyn claims that there was a darker reality behind the scenes. She alleges being treated as a “puppet,” confined to an empty room for up to ten days, and threatened with death if she spoke out.
According to Jordyn, despite visits from child protective services, Machelle coerced her into lying about their living situation through intimidation tactics. Jordyn described being forced to fabricate stories during investigations, under the constant fear of harm or death.
Jordyn disclosed enduring long-term abuse, including mental torment and physical deprivation, starting well before the inception of Fantastic Adventures. She recounted being subjected to body shaming, food deprivation, and manipulative tactics that pitted siblings against each other.
From a young age, Jordyn was burdened with caring for her foster siblings while her mother was absent. She expressed feeling abandoned and failed by the system despite numerous investigations into their home.
In March 2019, police intervened following a tip from Jordyn’s sister, leading to Machelle’s arrest on multiple felony charges related to abuse. However, before facing trial, Machelle sustained a non-trauma-related brain injury and passed away in November 2019.
Reflecting on her mother’s death, Jordyn expressed frustration over the lack of justice served. She criticized the system for failing to protect them despite repeated reports of neglect and abuse.
An Arizona Department of Child Safety spokesperson reiterated the agency’s commitment to investigating reports of abuse and ensuring children’s safety, acknowledging the challenges in preventing individuals with harmful intentions from slipping through the system.
