The Met Office has issued a warning for strong winds in certain parts of the UK. A yellow alert is in effect from noon until 7pm today and may result in high waves along coastal areas and potential power outages.

The six regions under the warning are located in Northern Ireland, including County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County Londonderry, and County Tyrone.

The forecasted strong and gusty winds are expected to cause “possible disruptions to transportation and infrastructure,” according to the warning issued by the Met Office. Drivers are advised to anticipate delays on roads, railways, and ferries.

A statement mentioned, “Strong southeasterly winds will move from southwest to northeast across Northern Ireland during the afternoon, clearing the north coast by evening. Wind speeds will reach 45-55 mph across most areas, with potential gusts up to 60 mph along the exposed coasts of counties Down and Antrim, as well as near high ground elsewhere.

“Apart from the strong winds, persistent rain is expected to affect all regions for a period, leading to challenging travel conditions.”

The statement also advised, “If you are near the coast, take precautions during stormy weather by being cautious of large waves. Even from the shore, strong waves can pose a risk of being swept away. Be cautious near cliffs, plan your route carefully, and keep dogs on a leash. In case of emergency, dial 999 and request assistance from the Coastguard.”

Currently, there are no other weather warnings issued by the Met Office in the UK.
