EDF introduces a promotion where customers can receive complimentary electricity on Sundays by reducing their electricity usage during peak hours on weekdays. This initiative, called the Sunday Saver challenge, requires customers to shift their electricity consumption away from the peak hours of 4pm to 7pm each weekday.

In exchange for this effort, participants can enjoy between four and 16 hours of free electricity on the following Sunday. EDF customers can take part in four Sunday Saver challenges scheduled for February 15, 22, and March 1, and 8. Customers with smart meters have until February 1 to sign up for the program.

EDF reports that over 260,000 households have already benefited from more than 17 million free hours of electricity through the Sunday Saver initiative. This has resulted in £5.2 million in credits applied to customers’ bills.

Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, shared her positive experience, having earned over 680 free hours of electricity on Sundays. She highlighted the financial relief the Sunday Saver challenge brought to her family amidst rising living costs.

Jon Perks, EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, emphasized the program’s practicality in helping customers reduce expenses during the winter months. He encouraged households to use the Energy Hub to monitor their electricity usage and discover opportunities to save energy, contributing to a more sustainable grid.

Participants can track their Sunday Saver progress through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, allowing them to access a personalized overview of their household’s energy consumption. Additionally, EDF is offering a £50 credit to new and existing customers who enroll in any of its electric vehicle tariffs, providing five hours of discounted electricity daily between 12am and 5am for both homes and electric vehicles.
