A mother has made a heartfelt appeal to fellow parents following the tragic suicide of her 13-year-old daughter. Robyn Lott, who was given a mobile phone for emergencies when she began secondary school, posted concerning TikTok videos indicating suicidal thoughts in the weeks leading up to her death on July 14. Her mother, Alison Ward, was unaware of Robyn’s TikTok activity until after the incident.

Robyn, described as initially upset the night before her passing but appearing happier after speaking with her mother, was discovered by her father, Malcolm, in their Sabden home near Clitheroe. Alison expressed concerns about children being desensitized to suicide and self-harm, emphasizing the need for parental awareness.

At an inquest into Robyn’s death at Accrington Town Hall, it was revealed that she had thrived at primary school but faced challenges upon transitioning to secondary school, prompting a move to Accrington Academy. Discussions with the school about a neurodiversity assessment for Robyn, who exhibited autistic traits, were ongoing before her untimely death.

Despite forming close friendships at her new school, Robyn faced difficulties after a breakup with her partner, leading to distress and worrisome TikTok posts hinting at self-harm. Concerning TikTok content and conflicts with friends were highlighted during the inquest.

Robyn’s parents believe she may not have fully comprehended the consequences of her actions that led to her death, attributing it to impulsivity and heightened emotions. The coroner acknowledged Robyn’s young age, impulsiveness, and emotional state in delivering a narrative conclusion.

After the inquest, Alison remembered her daughter as a compassionate and beautiful soul, vowing to keep her memory alive. The family’s loss was described as tragic, emphasizing the profound impact of losing a young life.
