New video footage captures the dramatic moment when a driver of a Mercedes vehicle crashes into a roundabout, causing the car to fly over multiple other vehicles on a busy road. Despite the intense impact, the driver miraculously survives the incident.

The CCTV footage shows the car speeding down a city street before hitting the kerb at the roundabout, propelling it into the air. The Mercedes narrowly avoids colliding with a camera as it somersaults over a bus and two cars, eventually colliding with a pole at the roadside.

Authorities in the northwestern Romanian city of Oradea report that the event occurred on Wednesday when the 49-year-old driver experienced a diabetic episode, leading to the loss of control over the vehicle and the subsequent high-speed crash into the roundabout.

Witnesses residing in nearby apartments recall hearing a loud crash before seeing the driver extracted from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital. The driver had entered the roundabout in the wrong direction, striking the central island at high speed, causing the vehicle to launch into the air.

The car soared through the air for several seconds, clearing a hedge before impacting a metal pole close to a petrol station. Fortunately, the vehicle narrowly missed a large petrol pump, averting a potential catastrophic explosion.

Despite sustaining multiple fractures, the driver did not suffer life-threatening injuries. Medical professionals confirmed that the unconscious driver had experienced severe hypoglycaemia, a condition resulting from critically low blood sugar levels.

Subsequently, the police suspended the driver’s license for 90 days and imposed a fine of 1,600 Romanian lei (£270). In Romania and other EU countries like the UK, individuals with diabetes must demonstrate awareness of the risks associated with hypoglycaemia, with repeat episodes potentially rendering them unfit to drive.
