Donald Trump faces accusations of a “cover-up” as his administration plans to release only a portion of the US Government’s Jeffrey Epstein files. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the Justice Department for the fragmented release approach rather than a comprehensive disclosure.
Expressing disappointment, a victim of Epstein stated, “This is a betrayal. Survivors were promised everything, not just bits and pieces, delays, or another attempt to shield powerful individuals. Each withheld file indicates their fear of the truth outweighs our suffering. Why the delay? What are they concealing?”
Just before the expected release time of around 8 pm UK time, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that several hundred thousand documents would be released on Friday, with more to follow in the coming weeks.
Schumer emphasized that the law mandated the Trump administration to release all Epstein files within 30 days, not selectively. He accused the Department of Justice, Donald Trump, and Pam Bondi of concealing the truth.
Senate Democrats are collaborating with legal representatives of Epstein survivors and external legal experts to scrutinize the withheld documents and potential cover-ups by Attorney General Pam Bondi, vowing to pursue full transparency.
House oversight and judiciary committee ranking members Robert Garcia and Jamie Raskin condemned the Trump administration for defying the Epstein Files Transparency Act, considering legal action against the violation of federal law.
Congressman Ro Khanna criticized the Justice Department for the delayed release, urging a clear timeline for the full disclosure. He stressed the importance of transparency, justice for survivors, and accountability for those involved in Epstein’s illicit activities.
Blanche reassured that the department prioritizes protecting victims by meticulously reviewing all documents for sensitive information before release, with plans to unveil additional files in the following weeks.
As per the Epstein Files Transparency Act, Bondi is obligated to release all unclassified records related to Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and associates involved in criminal activities, in searchable and downloadable formats by midnight eastern time.
The impending publication follows persistent demands for file transparency, including from Trump’s supporters, signaling a growing divide within the MAGA base on this issue.
