After over ten years of engaging in conversations and light-hearted interactions with movie stars, musicians, and athletes over some fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the popular YouTube series called “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is bringing the show to a close.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her sentiments about the show, likening it to her personal romantic comedy filled with stories that she enjoyed creating for her audience. She thanked her followers for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes, stating that while she never imagined ending “Chicken Shop Date,” she believes it’s time to embark on a new adventure.
Twelve years ago, Dimoldenberg initiated the show by interviewing musicians within Britain’s underground rap scene. Over time, she expanded her guest list to include celebrities such as Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, accumulating nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” follows a straightforward concept: Dimoldenberg accompanies a celebrity to a fried chicken shop in London for a casual date and poses a mix of flirty, humorous, and sometimes awkward questions. The dynamic resembles more of a first date banter than a conventional talk show interview, often leading to playful exchanges like her interaction with Andrew Garfield in 2024.
Among the numerous interviews, Dimoldenberg has also conversed with Canadians, including Ryan Reynolds, who mistakenly referred to Blake Lively’s character on “Gossip Girl,” prompting a correction from Dimoldenberg. Notably, Shania Twain disclosed in a 2023 episode that she had never met Brad Pitt, despite mentioning him in her song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
The success of her YouTube channel has opened doors for Dimoldenberg beyond the chicken shop, allowing her to cover the red carpet at the Oscars this year, where she interviewed Hudson Williams, another Canadian.
While Dimoldenberg’s future plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, reports suggest she is involved in developing a young adult drama series for the BBC. She assured her followers in the farewell post on Instagram that there will be “a few final dates” before concluding the show permanently.
