McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing frustration over the revelation that the price of a hash brown has surged to nearly £2 at certain locations. A viral post showcased a snapshot of a McDonald’s menu board indicating a £1.99 price tag for a hash brown in that specific outlet.

The post, garnering over 459,000 views, included a caption stating, “£2 for a single hash brown. We are officially done.” Reactions flooded in, with one individual remarking, “It’s getting ridiculous, I rarely visit but it used to be an affordable choice.” Another person suggested, “For that price, you might as well get the sausage sandwich.” A third commenter simply labeled it as “madness.”

Adding to the discussion, one user expressed, “Those hash browns are fantastic, but £2 is just too much.” Another reminisced, “I remember when they were only 59p.”

In response to the price hike, a McDonald’s representative clarified, “Many of our restaurants are independently owned and operated, allowing franchisees to determine their pricing. Nonetheless, all are committed to delivering a top-notch dining experience and great value for customers.”

This development follows McDonald’s announcement of upcoming changes to the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program, where the points required for free items will be adjusted. Currently, items like a Big Mac and Chicken Nuggets necessitate 5,500 points, but starting March 17, 6,500 points will be needed for redemption. Customers earn 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Furthermore, the loyalty scheme adjustments will see the points threshold for various items increase, such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries rising from 1,500 to 2,000 points. For items like a regular McFlurry or Double Cheeseburger, the required points will climb to 3,500 and 5,000 respectively.

A McDonald’s spokesperson explained that the alterations to the loyalty program are a response to escalating food and supply expenses. They emphasized that while points requirements have been adjusted to reflect these costs, new redemption options like Chicken Selects and a Sausage Sandwich have been introduced to offer more choices to customers.
