Renowned romance writer Carley Fortune has unveiled the upcoming release of her sixth book, “Only in Summer,” set to hit shelves on May 18, 2027. This novel revisits the charming town of Barry’s Bay, Ont., a familiar backdrop from her earlier works “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” as well as her childhood hometown.
Fortune shared in a recent newsletter that she purchased a cottage near Barry’s Bay just before commencing the writing process. She expressed her long-standing dream of owning a cottage after selling her family’s lakeside home.
The story follows the protagonist Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, who harbors the same aspiration of owning property in Barry’s Bay. Ellie, the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s previous novels, grew up in the town and is thrilled to finally be able to afford her own place. However, her excitement is dampened when she discovers that the neighboring house is being demolished to make way for a lavish mansion by its new owner.
While further details remain undisclosed, it’s anticipated that a hesitant romance will blossom in this picturesque lakeside environment. Carley Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has a rich editorial background with Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her earlier publications include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”
“Meet Me at the Lake” was a notable contender on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel featured on the show. Additionally, “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, while Netflix Canada is currently in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series.
